Pleiades is the first instalment in a planned series of improvised pieces inspired by Tangerine Dream and the music of the 1970s Berlin School of Electronica.

This first work imagines an astronaut marooned and drifting in deep space, whilst experiencing the final moments of his existence. It is deliberately minimal, with most of the heavy lifting done by 8 and 16 note sequences overlaid with meandering leads, sound effects and ambient atmospheres.

The music is based around two sequences originally developed in 2016, but with layers of improvisation, texture and variation gradually built up over them during a period of 72 hours. This is where the name Berlin 72 comes from.
